Bring the drama and colour of a Blue & Gold Macaw into your home with this individually hand-carved wooden mobile.
Each macaw is carved from sustainably sourced pine by South African artist Dominic McCabe and carefully painted by hand. With its sweeping wings, extraordinarily long tail and vivid blue & Gold colouring, each piece has its own distinctive character.
Carefully balanced by hand and suspended from a simple wooden bar, the macaw moves gently with the slightest breeze, creating beautiful, changing silhouettes throughout the day.
Its dramatic form and vibrant colouring make it a striking focal point in contemporary interiors, creative studios and nature-inspired spaces.
The beauty of each macaw lies in the carving itself — the graceful sweep of its wings, the sculpted form and the subtle variations that make every piece unique.

Questions and Answers
Is it easy to assemble?
Yes. Your bird arrives with simple instructions and can be assembled in just a few minutes. Once suspended from a ceiling hook (not included), it is carefully balanced and ready to fly.
Does it have a motor or require batteries?
No. Each bird is entirely mechanical, with no motor, batteries or electricity required. It is individually balanced by hand and responds beautifully to the slightest movement of air, creating a calm, natural flight.
Is it heavy? Can I hang it from a ceiling hook?
Not at all. Although handcrafted from sustainably sourced pine, each bird is surprisingly lightweight. A standard ceiling cup hook is more than sufficient to support it safely.
Is it suitable for a nursery?
Yes, with adult installation. These birds create a calming focal point that children love to watch. They are designed as decorative heirloom pieces rather than toys, so they should always be installed securely and out of a child's reach.
Will my child outgrow it?
No. Unlike many nursery decorations, this is a handcrafted work of art designed to grow with your family. It can move from a nursery to a child's bedroom, a reading nook, a living room or become a treasured family heirloom to be enjoyed for generations.
Is every bird exactly the same?
No. Every piece is individually carved, balanced and finished by hand by South African artist Dominic McCabe. The subtle differences from one bird to another are part of what makes each one unique.
Can it be displayed outdoors?
Yes, in sheltered outdoor areas such as covered patios, verandas or porches. We recommend protecting your bird from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heavy rain and strong winds to preserve its finish for many years.
Why is it more expensive than an ordinary mobile?
Each bird is individually hand-carved, hand-balanced and finished by a master craftsman rather than mass-produced in a factory. Designed as a lasting piece of functional art, it is made to be enjoyed for decades, making it very different from a conventional nursery mobile.
Care
Your wooden bird requires very little maintenance. Simply dust occasionally with a soft, dry cloth.
It is suitable for display both indoors and in sheltered outdoor areas, such as covered patios, verandas or porches. To preserve the finish and ensure years of enjoyment, we recommend protecting it from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heavy rain, strong winds and other harsh weather conditions.
With a little care, your handcrafted bird will continue to bring gentle movement and timeless beauty to your home for many years.
A Note About Hand Work
Each bird is carved, sanded and finished entirely by hand. Small variations in wood grain, colour and finish are a natural part of the process and are what make every mobile truly one of a kind. These subtle differences are not imperfections but a reflection of genuine handcrafted workmanship.

Made by Hand in Johannesburg
Every WoodWings bird is individually carved by Dominic McCabe in our Johannesburg studio. He shapes each bird by hand, working with the natural character of the wood, then carefully balances it so that it moves freely and gracefully when suspended. No two are exactly alike, each carries the small variations that come from being made one at a time.
